The first round of Evergreen Drift‘s Pro Am competition was an exciting and entertaining showcase of sideways action and smoking tires. Drivers and teams from all around the Pacific Northwest showed up to prove their dominance and supremacy over the competition. From weekend warriors to big sponsored teams, we were very excited to see just how hungry the competition was for that podium finish.
We arrived on the course bright and early in the morning to check out all of the various teams unloading and prepping their cars for the event. We were excited to see that our good friends, Matt Vankirk and Zach Farrar, were competing in the event. Matt’s freshly built S13 was finished just that morning at 5am and was brought to the track ready for battle. Zach’s green S13, which recovered from a brutal crash a few weeks back, returned admirably to compete in a focused and determined manner. Both had attended the various Open Drift events prior and had practiced, tuned, and prepared for events such as Pro Am. We were very excited to watch them compete, putting their experience and skills to the test for the first round of the Pro Am season.
As practice and qualifying occurred, the lineup of drivers and cars stirred up lots of excitement from the crowd. S13s and S14s battled it out with Mustangs and AE86s, newcomers and battle-hardened veterans met face-to-face in sideways dogfights, and the air was filled with smoke and dragon-like roars as Monroe, WA was complimented with beautiful clear skies and sunny weather (a rarity for us in Western Washington). Pro Am was shaping up to be a great start to the 2015 season.
At the end of the day, Tyler Campbell and his unassuming AE86 dominated the competition and took first place. A true David and Goliath story, Campbell’s little AE86 overcame monstrous adversaries with style and skill that was inspiring to experience toughout the event.
We would like to thank Evergreen Drift and all of the drivers who came out for an amazing event!
