A monumental ending to an action-packed season of drifting at Evergreen Speedway, the Evergreen Drift ProAm Championship was a culmination of the best drivers of the season battling it out for the glory of Formula Drift Pro2 privileges. As both veterans and rookies returned from a few weeks of downtime, practice, and travel, the ProAm Championship was the final stage in this long-running series for drivers to prove to judges, spectators, and enthusiasts who truly deserved to be at the top. After months of countless mechanical issues and intense paint-swapping tandems, it was now time to see who would be crowned champion of Evergreen Drift’s 2015 ProAm series.
In front of the pack, Matt Vankirk was leading the series with just 1 point over Cameron Moore, who had just returned from Texas taking 2nd place in Formula Drift Pro2 and was looking to retain his dominance at Evergreen Speedway. Close by, Chris Johnson was fighting to make sure his S14.5 was the only green car at the podium finish, while Brandon Schmidt, Jesse Hayes, Mike Goddard, Pro2 driver Ian Fournier, and Grassroots driver Matt Larkin were all fighting to overthrow the leading drivers in the series.
Battles of power, style, and precision knocked out several drivers during the intial rounds of the event, eventually pitting Ian Fournier and Chris Johnson, as well as Matt Vankirk and Cameron Moore, against one another in the final rounds of ProAm.
Ian Fournier overcame the green monster that is Chris Johnson and his S14.5 and was able to take 3rd place, while Matt Vankirk skillfully battled his way to 1st place pushing back Cameron Moore to a 2nd place finish. The event’s results filled the air with hysteria as Matt Vanirk proved to everyone that he had the skills and passion to compete and successfully win at the same level as other high-caliber and battle-hardened drivers of the sport. A truly incredible finish for an event filled with many triumphs and numerous tragedies all season long.
We would like to thank Evergreen Drift and Evergreen Speedway for producing such an awesome event/series and big shoutouts to all of the talented drivers and crew members who came out to compete in ProAm! We are very excited to see drivers return back to the track next season, as well as any new faces looking to compete in ProAm. Big congratulations to the champion, Matt Vankirk! We are very excited to see where he goes from here, especially as he competes in Formula Drift’s Pro2 series next season and any future events at Evergreen Speedway.
