If you’re a big fan of drifting and can’t get enough of the smoke, rumble, and burning of tires of this much treasured Japanese pastime, then May 30th, 2015 was a special Saturday for all addicts of oversteer. A double-header, all-day Saturday event, Evergreen Drift hosted, not only the 2nd round of Grassroots, but also the 2nd round of ProAm, bringing together amateurs, professionals, and every other skill level in between to battle it out for drifting supremacy.
As the 2nd rounds of both series continued, drivers returned to defend their rankings and to stay dominant among the rest of the competition. Our good friends and supporters, Matt Vankirk and Zach Farrar, returned to the track, and even though some major mechanical complications occurred before and during the event, both performed brilliantly in each of their respective series.
In Grassroots, Zach showcased resolute determination and focus in the face of countless mechanical issues that had him jumping back and forth between the pits and the starting line. Despite all of these setbacks, Zach performed beyond expectations, conquering the majority of the Grassroots competition with his consistently improving driving ability and precise technical execution, which garnered him much cheer and praise from many professional drivers. In the end, Zach convincingly took 3rd place at Grassroots round 2, illustrating his impressive performance consistency and skill set (even in the face of adversity) that makes him a fervid contender in the Grassroots and ProAm scene.
In ProAm, Matt brought together a successful portfolio of skill, team, and machine for the event. Despite an early fuel and suspension-related obstacle, Matt showed up in full force with his LS-Powered S13 to take on other ProAm drivers competing for a podium finish. After an impressive qualifying run, Matt dominated competitor after competitor, meeting Nate Snyder and his wild S14 in the finals. A truly incredible battle for 1st place, the final tandem was filled with smoke, chaos, and anxiety as both drivers slid in and around the track in their monstrous machines. At the end of it all, Matt victoriously took 1st place at ProAm round 2, solidifying his dominance in the ProAm scene with a commanding combination of his driver skill his manic S13.
Grassroots round 2 and ProAm round 2 was an incredibly beautiful and action-filled day, bringing together awesome drivers, cars, and weather to the track for a full day of sideways thrills.
Major shoutouts to our good friends Zach Farrar and Matt Vankirk for their incredible performances and podium finishes in Grassroots and ProAm. Thank you to all of the competitors who came out for the event! Everyone definitely gave the crowd an amazing show! Big thanks to Evergreen Drift and Evergreen Speedway for hosting this amazing event!
